I read an interesting paper today which investigated the life expectancy of dogs and whether 'hybrid vigour' exists in canines. In other words, this study explored whether crossbred dogs live longer than purebred dogs. The most common causes of death in dogs and the average life expectancies of the most common breeds are also presented. Interestingly, on average, cross bred dogs live about one year longer than pure bred dogs.
The results are summarised in the attached poster. The Dogue de Bordeaux breed is listed on this poster, so worth a look.
